"a night to remember"

the title of tonight's blog has very special meaning... Not only was it the title of a sketch, and also to the name of a song that was written tonight...but it really was just one of those nights you remember forever. So thank you Tony (I'll explain that later) and thank you Maggie.

Maggie got off work late, and coming from LA is not a quick drive...I put our name in a Le Creperie and watched people, caught up on phone calls with old friends in Colorado and Portland. After sitting down and enjoying the atmosphere, good conversation, soft piano playing in the background and a couple of decadent crepes we decided it was time to head out. We had been planning this all week. We wanted to set up on 2nd street and play music together, write songs and just see what happens. She tuned my guitar while i set up my cajon and then she started picking. this girl had talent. I played rhythm she played lead...and peple actually stopped to listen to us and talk to us. They asked how long we had been playing together...our answer, about 5 minutes. One man in particular made our evening...Tony (seen in pic above with M). He rode up on a brown, 1950s bicycle while carrying a frame and 3 paintbrushes. He said he loved our music and wanted to draw us and capture our atmosphere. We talked to him for awile then sang some missy higgins, then made up a song (which we must now name "a night to remember") while he sketched us from the curb. When we were done he said the sketch was named "a night to remember"...Tony was living on the streets right now, he is an artist and asked me to pray for him because he wants so bad to stay in CA where his heart is (his daughters). He said tonight was the best night he'd had while on the street. He gave us the sketch and the frame he was holding so we could frame it..and rode off into the night. After he left maggie and I talked about how much we love those kind of nights and people like Tony...it was a perfect night. Goodnight.
